Her appeal stems from the ability to capture, within a single frame, the enduring presence of her subjects. She has a genius for knowing exactly how to bring out the electricity, magnetism, and personality of the person she is photographing. It was through her years of photographing actors, and understanding them and their creative process, that she became fascinated with the moving image. She is an award winning film director who has studied under Norman Jewison, Wim Wenders, Arthur Penn and Dan Petrie, and has worked doing photography on the sets of the world’s top directors. “A movie director for me is a visual fiction writer,” says Harvey. It is about telling the story and connecting with the actors to make something true than life. When it works, it is a wonderful thing. After twenty years of developing my artistic vision through photography, I try to put all the life I’ve captured on the street through my still photography into the performance on the screen. And I am still in my heart a photographer.”
